We are happy to welcome Leslie Kaminoff back in Amsterdam!  Leslie is a senior teacher and expert on yoga anatomy. He is well known for the book ‘Yoga Anatomy’ which he co-authored and his years of international teaching.

After the wonderful Masterclass and Intensive Leslie offered in 2019 with us, we are exited to have him back in October to take us on the journey of Breath-Centered Yoga. You get to learn from the master, experience your breath in a whole new way, and explore topics that are a must for every yoga practitioner and teacher.

The Intensive: Journey into the Center of the Breath

‘Asana is how we stabilize our bodies in space… breath is how we mobilize the space in our bodies.’ – Leslie Kaminoff

This weekend immersion with Leslie is for you if you like to take your yoga and understanding of the breath to the next level. Consisting of four sessions, each session will include a balance of practice (both asana and pranayama), inquiry, lecture, and interactive discussion.

Yoga practitioners, teachers, and therapists of all levels will be able to benefit from Leslie’s simple, clear methodology.

In a highly interactive format, Leslie will share effective breathing and teaching techniques developed over 40 years of practice as a yoga, breath, and anatomy educator. Leslie’s approach is aimed at creating freer, more efficient movement and support within all styles of yoga practice. You will gain both an anatomical understanding and an embodied experience of the different techniques used. Allowing you to go home with practical and effective tools to work with your breath and body in a way that is adaptable to your or your student’s unique needs.

What you will learn:

  • The yogic concepts of breath: prana and apana

  • Anatomical essentials of your breath and spine and how they contribute to coordinating movement

  • Myth-busting: clarify your teaching language by eliminating breath and anatomy myths

  • Balancing your teaching and personal practice between inquiry and technique

  • Applying simple, adaptive imagery

  • Non-invasive breath techniques that provide a safe space for all, including those who have experienced trauma

  • Take-home breath exercises to incorporate into your own practice and daily routine

Leslie’s teaching is rooted in the individualized perspective of his teacher T.K.V. Desikachar, which honors every person’s unique structure, condition, history, etc. This means he avoids formulaic systems of observation or prescription when it comes to asana analysis.

For this intensive Leslie assumes participants have an understanding of basic anatomy, so he does not spend time reviewing the names or locations of individual muscles, nerves, joints, or anatomical systems. Instead, he teaches about them in relation to your practice and experience, encouraging personal embodiment.

A certificate of completion from The Breathing Project will be issued to all participants. If you like to refresh your knowledge before attending, we recommend reading: Spine and Breath chapters of “Yoga Anatomy, 3rd edition” by Leslie Kaminoff and Amy Matthews.
